Armenian patriotic poet. He created his poems under the pen name of Kamar Katiba. "Tears of Arax" is his most famous work. Like Nalbandian, Raphael Badkanian was born in Nor Nakhichevan and attended his father's school there before going to Moscow and Germany to study. In Moscow he formed a literary group with some Armenian friends whose initials formed the name of the club, Kamar Katiba. Badkanian used the name to sign his work, which includes poetry, novels, short stories, text books, and translations from the Russian writers, Pushkin and Lermontov. In his time he was a prominent national figure, both for his patriotic fervor and his poetry in the eastern dialect. |
